By now you've probably heard about the football player who had a severe spinal cord injury when he broke his neck covering a punt. You can read about what the doctors did on the field that likely spared him from being a quadriplegic. In this article, Dr. Barth Green, chairman of the department of neurological surgery at the University of Miami school of medicine is quoted as saying "I don't know if I would call it a miracle. I would call it a spectacular example of what people can do."
Which is it? Or is it both? Too often we hear about stories such as this and don't think it's a miracle. Two years ago, Kevin Everett would be doing his best Stephen Hawking impersonation. Now, he actually might walk again and lead a "normal" life. But it is also a testament to what people can do. It is amazing all the scientific advances that have happened in the last thirty years. But we have to remember Who it is that gives these men and women the ability to think creatively and make new discoveries.
